I'm packing up and getting ready to leave Reno now. Saw some great racing this year! Today we will ride back down the 395 to Lee Vining then hang a right to the Tioga Pass but stay down in the bottom of the canyon rather than go up the pass. In the back of the canyon by the old power house is where we will be camping all week. We will be taking day trips into Yosemite from there. I doubt I will have cell phone coverage there so this may be my last post for awhile.

I created this blog so that my friends and family can follow me along on my road trips. I will post a new blog every day while on the road.

Races
Steven Hilton in "Strega" wins and became the youngest pilot to win in the history of National Championship Air Racing at 22years old! John Penny in "Rare Bear" (always my favorite) came in 2nd.

Saturday
It's finally race day! Today I will spend the whole day in the pits. I love to walk around the pits in between races and see all the different airplanes and watch the crews working on them. Sometimes they do a complete engine overhaul between races!

Had another great day today. I always love hanging out in Virginia City. We did a mine tour and road the old train to Gold Hill and back, and of course drank beer in the Bucket of Blood Saloon. I think Fast Dave actually liked riding that Harley today though I doubt he will admit it. Haha!
Jim, Steve and I had dinner at Gecko BBQ. While we were there I saw Hoot Gibson walk in. He walked right by me and I raised my beer and yelled "Hoot Gibson! Yeah!" he raised his beer and clanked my beer and said " Thanks man! I had a good day today!" for those of you that don't know him, Hoot Gibson is a famous astronaut and pilot. He was a Navy fighter pilot in the Viet Nam war, Navy test pilot and chief astronaut at NASA. He also races unlimited class and jet class at Reno. He's my hero! That definitely made my day!
I'm looking forward to going to the races tomorrow!

It's been a great day! I really enjoyed the America Legion post here! Everyone was so friendly, but of course all AL posts are like that. It's so nice to be in a strange town and always have a place to go where you feel so welcome. Then we relocated to Rusty's Bar. Shortly after we got there Cat met us. We had a few more beers then went over to Cat's house and visited for awhile. I'm now back in my motel room watching TV and relaxing. I'm looking forward to tomorrows ride. It really gets pretty from here up the 395.

Reno Air Races
Getting ready for my Reno trip. The first day I will ride to Bishop and visit my friend Cat, then the next day on to Reno for the National Championship Air Races. After the races I'm going camping in the Sierras for a week. I can't wait to get started! I love road trips!
